The
prestigious FOLIO MAGAZINE is a publication devoted to
magazine producers worldwide, with cutting edge
information and special FOLIO Events. When they required
Custom Fonts to change the appearance of their LOGO, they
turned to FontWorld.
FOLIO
Magazine had FontWorld redesign their Logo as a Type-1
typeface, optically enhanced and optimized in
three size groups. FontWorld improved upon their original
logo design, and included additional logos describing
special FOLIO Events as "single-entry keystrokes". This
was provided to FOLIO with rapid turn-around so they were
able to meet their scheduled special FOLIO Events planned
that summer.
FontWorld
also created additional Custom Font Logos for FOLIO
Magazine, including section headers and special logos for
upcoming events.
Optically
Enhanced and Optimized Modifications
- #1.
All serifs have uniform thickness at each point size.
The proportional thickness increases as the point size
decreases. This creates an optical illustion that the
proportions of the stroke thickness and serifs are
consistent between sizes, when indeed they are not.
This also prevents thin serif lines from 'ghosting'
when outputting on high resolution
printers.
- #2.
Inter-character spacing, ie. kerning and tracking,
increases as the point size decreases. This creates
the optical illusion that the proportional 'white
space balance' is maintained between sizes, when
indeed they are not. This also increases overall
legibility of the logo at relatively small
sizes.
- #3.
All vertical and horizontal elements are perfect
90 degrees or 180 degrees. no extruding pixels. All
arcs have been 'fit' to perfect circles.
- #4.
Size of the dot on the letter 'i' and the two dots of
the 'colon' have been increased to match the 'white
space circle' of the inside of the character 'o'. The
dot on the 'i' has been symmetrically centered in the
imaginary block above the 'i' and to the right of the
'i'. The dots of the colon have been positioned an
equal distance from the x-height and from the
baseline. They are now perfect circles.
- #5.
Overshoot of the character 'o' over the x-height
and below the baseline is now the same.
